The Girl Child Concerns, GCC, in collaboration with the Borno State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), has organized a five-day cascading training program for school counselors and mentors on establishing ‘safe spaces for girls in 100 schools within Borno State.
The training started on Tuesday 21st and ended on March 25th, 2023. The training was held at Government Girls College Maiduguri with about 171 participants from Borno Central who attended the program.
The coordinator of Girl Child Concerns Academy Hauwa Musa Gwoma described the adolescence period as a “terrible stage” in girls’ life that requires a lot of mentorships and positive advice else they may ruin their future.
She emphasized the need for women to establish themselves and acquire as many skills as possible to discover their potential to achieve a successful career and life in the future.
Gwoma explained that women are the engines of every development, concluding that girls are needed for future development in Nigeria.
“We need to help our girls in their various schools to build themselves with skills, patience, resilience, and knowledge to enable them to become women of substance in the future.”
